Cafe Baklava
About This Spot
Stepping into Cafe Baklava, you’re immediately wrapped in a quiet, unpretentious warmth—a narrow, tucked-away spot that feels like a well-kept secret in the heart of Mountain View. The space moves at a gentle pace, inviting you to settle in and take your time, whether you choose a cozy indoor table or the small but inviting outdoor seating along Castro Street. There’s a subtle hum of conversation and the occasional clatter of dishes, but it’s never rushed or loud, making it an ideal refuge for those who appreciate good food paired with an easygoing atmosphere.
The experience here is as much about discovery as it is about comfort. The menu, rich with Turkish and broader Mediterranean influences, offers familiar touches and a few surprises that unfold as you go. The thoughtful plating and fresh ingredients speak to a kitchen that values authenticity and balance. From rich, slow-cooked lamb dishes to vibrant salads and delicate pastries, each bite feels like a quiet invitation into a culinary story that’s both rooted in tradition and refreshed by care and creativity.
What stands out most is the feeling that the staff truly want you to enjoy your meal and moment—attentive without being intrusive, friendly but not overly familiar. Water glasses are refilled kindly and promptly, and there’s a thoughtful rhythm to the meal that encourages lingering without pressure. The occasional small gesture, like a shared appetizer arriving just at the right time, enhances the sense that you’re more than just a customer here.
Whether you’re drawn by the promise of homemade baklava, intrigued by the array of kebabs and mezze platters, or simply seeking a hospitable spot to unwind with a glass of red wine, Cafe Baklava offers a quietly joyful Mediterranean experience. It’s the kind of place that rewards those who return, carving out space for genuine food moments amid the buzz of the neighborhood.

I was in the mood for some good Mediterranean dinner and finally stopped by this restaurant after walking by many times. and the dinner was amazing! we were seated fast, there are outside and indoors tables, we got a free appetizer on our table right away, the waters were refilled fast and they were in nice glasses too. the prices for the portions are definitely worth it, and the food was delicious. the meat was grilled very well, the rice was delicious, and the customer service was great. I heard them ask other customers how they feel about the food and it was a nice touch. the decor is very nice as well. Will be back again :)

I ordered Beef Kebab well done, all 4 peaces of meet were juicy and soft and tender, but two were cooked perfectly and two others were extremely red inside, so I sent them back to the kitchen to cook for a bit more. Service is not attentive. Dear kitchen staff, more consistent meet works be appreciated. Still gone them 5 stars. I will come again to try lamb shank, it looked awesome.

Baklava offers a standout Mediterranean dining experience that blends exceptional food with warm, attentive service. From the moment you arrive, the staff makes you feel genuinely welcomed, striking the perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness. The menu is thoughtfully curated, with rich Mediterranean flavors executed beautifully, and the wine selection is particularly impressive, well-chosen, balanced, and perfectly suited to complement the cuisine. The atmosphere truly elevates the experience. With its intimate, European charm, the space feels transportive, reminiscent of a cozy Italian trattoria tucked away on a quiet street. The ambiance encourages you to slow down, enjoy conversation, and savor every bite. Whether you’re planning a date night, a celebratory dinner, or a relaxed evening with friends, Baklava delivers an experience that feels both refined and inviting, and one you’ll want to return to.

I really like this place. It's a funky, very narrow & long, easy to miss hole in the wall kind of place with really good food. We had the babaganoush, lamb moussaka and chicken, all delicious. The moussaka was loaded with meat, the chicken was tender - just a nice experience. Waiter was friendly, helpful and attentive. Recommended.

Excellent food and service. Was surprised to find a fried anchovies dish, which I guess is a seasonal thing, and was great too. Did an assortment of appetizers and all were flavorful and well prepared. A kepper!

Consistently good food and service here. Ali always takes good care of my crew and me. With a great menu, wine list, and full bar, it's good for everyone. Great vegetarian options as well. My personal favorite is the iskender/alexander kabob entree. Atmosphere is cozy and homey. I look forward to coming back time and again.

The best Turkish food in North America and some of THE BEST food I’ve ever had, don’t say that lightly at all! Excellent service to match the lip smacking food. A unique Turkish liquor they serve ultra chilled is a refreshing drink to try as well. The food you can’t go wrong with anything. A super tasty herbed tomato chilli oil they serve with amazing free bread at the table should be bottled and sold
